Green banded onyx is a trade name often used to describe a type of calcite that bears a light green coloration with brown or tan banding. Depending on the specific specimen, sometimes the green color leans yellow, and other times it appears more green. Green banded onyx is an evaporite rock that forms when calcium carbonate precipitates from a solution of groundwater and dissolved calcium carbonate.
