Rock/Mineral Info:

Septarian (also called "dragon stone") is composed of 3 main components: yellow calcite, brown aragonite, and limestone or mudstone. The amount of each mineral may vary depending on the stone. Oftentimes, the brown aragonite and/or yellow calcite in septarian will fluoresce beautifully under UV light.

Septarian is thought to have formed between 50 and 70 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period. A septarian nodule or concretion exhibits cracks or fissures which have been filled by minerals that have precipitated from groundwater. The process takes place in sedimentary rocks, where the initial mass hardens, shrinks or undergoes stress, and cracks. Typically, the minerals filling these cracks are yellow calcite and brown aragonite, although sometimes barite can also be present.

The word "septarian" finds its roots in the Latin word "septum," meaning partition. This refers to the internal fissures of the stone.

Metaphysical Properties:

Septarian is associated with inner awakening, protection, transformation, healing of the higher self, and connection to the Earth Mother. It is related primarily to the root chakra.
