Rock/Mineral Info:
Picture jasper is a type of true jasper (opaque microcrystalline quartz) that is known for its intricate scenic patterns resembling deserts, mountains, forests, and other landscapes. The stone is often brown or tan, but it can also be found in reds, blues, and greens.
Picture jasper takes millions of years to form, beginning as volcanic ash or mineral-rich sediment that has settled on the ocean floor or in sedimentary basins. Very gradually, groundwater percolates through the sediment, depositing a number of minerals (like iron, manganese, and other compounds) into the sedimentary fissures. These minerals form the gorgeous patterns of picture jasper.
Metaphysical Properties:
Picture jasper is associated with grounding, healing, comfort, and connection to the Earth. It is also primarily connected with the root chakra.
