Celestite is a soft sulfate mineral that grows in geodes, usually in sedimentary rocks. It is known for its ethereal, pale blue color and its sharp, prismatic crystals. Celestite gets its blue color from trace inclusions of strontium within its crystal lattice. The word "celestite" comes from the Latin word "caelestis," meaning "heavenly" or "celestial."
