Amazonite is a greenish-blue, potassium-rich feldspar mineral. It was originally named "Amazon Stone" after the Amazon River, even though there are no known occurrences of amazonite near that river.

This gem has been used for over 2000 years by multiple civilizations. It has been found in archaeological excavations for ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt.

With a Mohs hardness rating of 6 - 6.5, this stone is relatively durable and good for jewelry use.
