Description:
Each piece is approximately 1/2" - 2" in size. This material tends to be very vuggy and so is not ideal for tumbling.
Rock/Mineral Info:
Fire agate is a type of chalcedony that often displays natural iridescence. It is exclusively found in areas of Northern Mexico and the Southwestern US. It forms after volcanoes erupt and release hot lava, which flows over the landscape. As the lava cools and becomes solid, gas bubbles are trapped within its matrix. These bubbles eventually form cavities in the rock. Silica-rich fluids then percolate through the cracks in the lava rock, gradually depositing layers of chalcedony onto the cavity walls. The fluids come into contact with trace amounts of iron oxide (usually hematite, which is responsible for the fiery colors in fire agate).
Metaphysical Properties:
Fire agate is associated with spiritual awakening, protection, creativity, and confidence. It resonates primarily with the sacral chakra.
