Rock/Mineral Info:
Ruby in zoisite describes ruby growing in its host mineral of zoisite. Ruby is a corundum mineral known for its pink, pinkish-red, or red coloration which usually glows vibrantly under UV light. Being a corundum, ruby is also one of the hardest non-diamond minerals on the Mohs scale, ranking at a 9. Zoisite is frequently a host mineral for ruby and is known for its green coloration mottled with black spots or streaks. Zoisite belongs to the epidote group of minerals and is softer than ruby at a 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale.
