Kunzite is a highly-prized spodumene mineral famous for its pastel pink or lavender coloration. Before it was discovered in 1902 in the Pala region of California, kunzite had been previously mistaken for other pink gems like rose quartz or morganite. Its popularity rapidly increased because buyers were attracted to its pleasing hues and pleochroism (meaning its ability to show different colors when viewed from different angles). Since its discovery, kunzite has also been found in other worldwide locations, such as Brazil, Madagascar, Afghanistan, and Myanmar. It has become an extremely highly regarded mineral in the crystal world.
