Rhyolite is an extrusive igneous rock made up of quartz, feldspar, and glass. It displays mottled patterns, often with beautiful earthy textures. Rhyolites form in volcanic regions, erupting from the Earth's surface at temperatures of 1382F to 1562F. Rhyolite crystals form when quartz- and feldspar-bearing lava rapidly falls to the Earth after its eruption and cools.
